The Women’s division has been missing quite a few big names since Wrestlemania back in April last month. Nia Jax suffered two torn ACL’s and Ronda Rousey suffered a broken hand the same night as both took time off to recover. There is one superstar that hasn’t been seen since Wrestlemania and it has nothing to do with injury; Instead Sasha Banks has more of an issue with upper management and the creative team. With WWE ratings at an all time low, it’s not hard to imagine that they are going to have to figure this Banks situation sooner rather than later.
Despite not being featured in TV, Sasha has been arguably the hottest topic amongst the women’s division for the past month. Her absence has definitely been felt as the Raw and Smackdown Women’s rosters are obviously lopsided in favor of Smackdown. The lack of depth on Raw screams that Sasha is needed back, but there are a few reasons she may never return.
First off it is pretty obvious nothing will change as far as her booking. Vince McMahon has had an obvious fetish on what he wants a champ to look like despite their organic popularity among fans or their skills in the ring. This could be very frustrating for a talent like Banks seeing as she was once a few years back the most over talent amongst fans on the entire roster. Also, she has a history of having some of the greatest matches the women’s division has ever seen. She has accomplished all of these things and has almost nothing to show for it. Sasha is a 4 time Raw Women’s champion, but held the title for a combined 82 days with one of those “reigns” being the shortest in history at only 8 days. Meanwhile other wrestlers such as Carmella, Alexa Bliss, Charlotte Flair has at least one reign that lasted longer than Bank’s 4 combined.
The second reason is now there are legit other places to sign. WWE has never really feared other wrestling companies, but with the debut of All Elite Wrestling (AEW) on the horizon WWE talents have another serious option to consider if they are indeed unhappy where they are. Sasha Banks is a big enough name to where another company such as AEW could legit build an entire women’s division around her. Sasha going to AEW would be a huge blow to WWE considering AEW already has a lot of momentum….adding Sasha to that who is one of the top 3 most popular women wrestlers would simply add to the anticipation.
The third reason is she might be booked to stay on Raw…. Which means she will be separated from real life best friend Bayley who recently got traded to Smackdown. Also, this would mean that Sasha would have to battle for the main even spot with Alexa Bliss and Lacey Evans….Which if history taught us anything is that Sasha will definitely not be in that Main Event spot over those two performers for obvious reasons. Combine the lack of motivation to compete with blondes for the top spot with the fact that she will most likely be separated from Bayley, it’s kind of hard to see an upside for Sasha’s best interest to return to WWE.
Many fans are hopeful that she will return to the next Paperview “Money In The Bank” Which takes place May 19th. Both Raw and Smackdown has already revealed who would be in the annual Money In The Bank ladder match and Banks was not among the participants. The other two women’s matches on the card both include Becky Lynch as she defends both of her titles against Lacey Evans(Raw women’s championship) and Charlotte Flair (Smackdown women’s championship). Bayley being one of the competitors in the ladder match gives a slight chance that Sasha may appear if she comes to good terms with WWE before the date. If she doesn’t appear on this next paperveiw….It could be a sign that we’ll never see her again in WWE.
