One trade can sometimes be enough to push a team over the top and past rivals to the Super Bowl title in the competitive NFL. For the Kansas City Chiefs, however, winning the Super Bowl has become a way of life. The NFL’s newest dynasty hopes to further solidify their reputation in February of 2019 by triumphing in Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.
For now, though, the Chiefs are just waiting for Thursday night to arrive so they can start the process of becoming the first team in NFL history to win the Super Bowl three times in a row.
The arrival of a “old friend” may mean the difference between Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback, celebrating in New Orleans, or watching the season end in the icy January.
Patrick Mahomes expresses happiness over the Smith-Schuster reunion
The return of wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, who inked a one-year deal with the Chiefs on August 26, has finally been discussed by Mahomes in public. Smith-Schuster will be returning to Kansas City for the second time, having won Super Bowl LVII with the team two years prior.

Smith-Schuster became one of Mahomes’ favorite targets in the Chiefs’ first season following the trade of superstar Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins in 2022, when he piled up 933 yards from 78 receptions and three touchdowns.
Following his three-year contract signing with the New England Patriots in free agency, Smith-Schuster had a difficult 2023, and Mahomes is glad to have benefited from the former second-round pick’s “down year”. What Mahomes said to the media on Smith-Schuster’s comeback:
“It’s super exciting,” “I mean, just the person, being in the locker room, being in the meeting rooms, he gets it, man. He gets how to be a pro, and then he works hard. He’s out here, he looks great.”

Smith-Schuster might even be available on Thursday when the Chiefs play the Baltimore Ravens and reigning MVP Lamar Jackson at Arrowhead Stadium in their first Super Bowl defense. Amidst a wide receiving corps that underwent some changes this summer, two-time MVP Mahomes is eager for the veteran Smith-Schuster, who picks things up quickly, to return to Chiefs red. Mahomes said,
“I’m excited for him, just to continue to learn the little things that we changed in the year that he wasn’t (here),”. “But he’s picked up a lot of the stuff really fast. It’s good to have that type of guy in that receiver room.”
