Fans have always favored Kanye West to be the main act at the Super Bowl Halftime Show. However, Ye himself claims that three crucial events in his career prevented him from ever competing on the NFL level.
On Monday, April 7, Ye posted on Twitter: “I never was allowed to do the Super Bowl because of 3 moments. George Bush doesn’t care about Black people. The Taylor Swift moment. Wearing a MAGA hat.”
“How it feel to be the best living and blocked from the main stage because of being ahead of my time. And I mean all of this before I went full Nazi of course.”
As Kanye acknowledged the public scandals that have shaped his career, such as his notorious post-Hurricane Katrina remarks, the 2009 VMAs incident involving Taylor Swift, and his support for Donald Trump, the statement immediately provoked controversy and conversation.
After Kanye and Rihanna co-headlined a pre-Super Bowl performance in Arizona back in 2015, there was conjecture that he might be selected for the halftime show the following year. Lady Gaga was selected to perform in 2016 instead.
Even though Ye is still regarded as one of the most significant—and contentious—figures in contemporary music, it appears from his own introspection that he feels his divisive moments have prevented him from performing on some of the largest platforms in the business.
