Following in the Footsteps of Lamar Jackson, Jets’ Haason Reddick Declines a $250K Workout Bonus

The Eagles terminated their relationship with Haason Reddick because the New York Jets knew he was eligible for an extension when they acquired him in March. Still, the Jets completed the trade for a 2026 conditional third-round selection. Reddick has yet to show up for OTAs, which will ultimately cost him a significant sum of money—$250k, to be exact. It turns out that this circumstance is comparable to the one for which Lamar Jackson of the Ravens recently made news.

The $750k workout payment that reigning MVP Lamar Jackson receives year guarantees that the team captain attends offseason practices and mentors youngsters.

He may not be eligible for the prize, though, as sources indicate that he has already missed far too many practice sessions. Not many were surprised by this choice, given that he has his own trainers and earns $52 million year. For Reddick, though, it’s the complete reverse.

With the forthcoming extension, the standout linebacker—who has totaled 50.5 sacks over the last four years—is refusing to accept the OTAs and the $250k incentive. Haason Reddick only has one year left on his contract, which is for $14.5 million—much less than the league average—according to Rich Cimini of ESPN. The Jets head coach Robert Saleh hinted at the possible deadlock when he was questioned about it.

He shifted the inquiry to general manager Joe Douglas, who is known for avoiding interviews with the media in the week between the draft and training camp. It is safe to assume that the question will remain unsolved for some time as a result. Saleh said,

“I don’t know that,”. “That would probably be more of a question for Joe [Douglas]”

Surprisingly, Reddick intimated that he would leave the subject of the specifics of his contract to Douglas and his agent as soon as his trade was finalized. This strongly implied that he was looking for a better offer.
